Job Description

The Culture Shock Coordinator will help plan and run the Culture Shock event while working closely with QPIRG.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with the Vice-President (External) and QPIRG to plan a precise budget; 
  2. Plan the structure of Culture Shock and arrange for all necessary media, rent or purchase the necessary media and/or equipment, organize the necessary space and present the plan to the Vice-President (External) and the QPIRG External Coordinator;
  3. Assist with setup and on-site organization of the events of Culture Shock;
  4. Coordinate the film screenings;
  5. Contact and organize all necessary student groups for the Culture Shock Food Fair and workshop series;
  6. Be the main contact person for all Culture Shock event participants;
  7. Coordinate the advertising of Culture Shock through all necessary media, including but not limited to postering;
  8. Recruit and coordinate volunteers to ensure the seamless operation of all Culture Shock events; 
  9. Adhere to all standard accounting procedures of the SSMU;
  10.  Ensure that Culture Shock as a whole is as inclusive of minority groups as possible and is congruent with the values stated in the preamble of the SSMU Constitution;
  11. Write an exit report, to be delivered to the SSMU Vice-President External and the External Coordinator of QPIRG in both digital and hard copies by no later than November 30th.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimal experience in coordinating events is required. 
  • Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organization skills.
  • Good communication skills both in English and French desirable.

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $12.35 per hour
  • Hours: On average 5-10 hours per week
  • Contract: October 17th, 2016 through November 30th, 2016
