The Student's Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently hiring. With over 20,000 members, SSMU's role is to represent students and to offer services since 1908.

Job Description

As a Gerts’ Bartender, the individual must make a positive contribution to the operations of Gerts Bar. The Bartender must ensure that all members of the McGill community receive prompt and courteous service, and assist in promoting events held at the bar.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1)    Serve food and drinks to clients in a timely and professional manner;

 

2)    Maintain the cleanliness of the work environment, including all bar surfaces, tables, back bar area and stock area;

 

3)    Ensure that the bar is equipped with the appropriate stock and supplies for the duration of the shift as well as the following shift;

 

4)    Ensure that all cash, debit, and credit card transactions balance with AZbar and Azpos sales figures and reports;

 

5)    Inform the Administrative Gerts Manager or Bar Supervisor of any stock shortages and report any broken or missing equipment;

 

6)    Inform students about the policies regarding bookings from faculties, clubs or others and direct them to the Operations Bar Manager for further information;

 

7)    Serve SSMU functions in other SSMU venues by completing inventory, serving clientele and completing closing cash out. Follow SSMU and Quebec liquor regulations.

 

8)    Respect and follow building and SSMU regulations and by-laws.

Qualifications

  • Previous bartending and or serving experience and/or certification required;

 

  • Integrity, maturity, good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team are essential;

 

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset;

 

  • Familiarity with the McGill environment is an asset.
