Job Description

Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Supervisor will be responsible for preparing food and supervising the kitchen staff, ensuring the timeliness, presentation and quality of food.

  1. Prepare for the daily opening of the kitchen and prepare and plate food during lunch rush according to recipe standards;
  2. Receive and put away food orders;
  3. Coordinate training of kitchen staff in collaboration with the Kitchen Manager;
  4. Assist in staff scheduling tasks;

  5. Ensure that kitchen staff comply with their job descriptions and report deficiencies to the Kitchen Manager;

  6. Ensure that the quality of the food leaving the kitchen complies with regulated health and food standards, as well as recipe standards;
  7. Ensure that the kitchen is adequately stocked and everything needed for food service is available;
  8. In rush periods, coordinate food expedition as needed and provide support to the kitchen staff as needed;
  9. Ensure that kitchen staff and equipment comply with hygiene and health standards. Follow and implement the cleaning routine for equipment, kitchen space, fridge, freezer and stock room.
  10. Make sure that the kitchen equipment is functional. If not, report deficiencies to the Kitchen Manager;
  11. Ensure managerial cleaning list is followed and completed before punching out;
  12. Act as a replacement for kitchen staff and cashier(s) as necessary;
  13. Respect and follow building and SSMU regulations and by-laws.


Qualifications

  • MAPAQ certification;
  • Previous restaurant and or kitchen experience is necessary;
  • An interest in food, cooking and food service is essential;
  • Creativity, organizational skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team as well as the ability to work within a team environment are essential;
  • Familiarity with the McGill environment is an asset.


Additional Information

  • Paid position: $14.28 per hour;
  • Hours: 25-30 hours per week;
  • Contract: ASAP until April 30th, 2016;
