With over 20,000 members, SSMU’s role is to represent undergraduate students and to offer them services since 1908.

As Bar-back, the individual must make a positive contribution to the daily operations of Gerts bar. The Bar-back’s responsibility is to assist the bartender to ensure that all members of the McGill community receive prompt, courteous service and assist in promoting events held at the bar.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain the cleanliness of the work environment, including all bar surfaces, tables, back bar area, stock area and food areas;
2. Set-up the bar area for the beginning of every shift;
3. Ensure that the bar is equipped with the appropriate stock and supplies for the duration of the shift as well as the following shift;
4. Fill the bar stations throughout the night with beer, ice, alcohol and supplies as needed;
5. Inform the Night Supervisor or Manager of any stock shortages and report any broken or missing equipment;
6. Inform students about the policies regarding bookings from faculties, clubs or others and direct them to the Manager for further information;
7. Assist student groups with set-up of their events, including sound equipment, door & coat check;
8. Ensure managerial cleaning list is followed and completed before punching out;
9. Respect and follow building regulations and SSMU Internal Regulations.

• Previous restaurant or bar experience preferred;
• A fitness level that allows for heavy lifting, moving up and down stairs and standing for long periods of time;
• Integrity, maturity, good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team are essential;
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset;
• Familiarity with the McGill environment is an asset.

• Paid position: $12.24 per hour;
• Hours: minimum 10 hours per week;
• Contract: August 15, 2018 through mid May, 2019;
