Job Description

The DEO shall supervise all electoral officers of the SSMU, oversee the operations of Elections SSMU, and be responsible for administering the SSMU’s elections and referenda, under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer (hereinafter “CEO”).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)The CEO and the Deputy Electoral Officer shall be advised by the President. Should all these officers be candidates for election, the President or the General Manager shall serve as advisor.

2)The DEO appointed by the SSMU, and confirmed by the Council, shall be responsible for the general conduct and execution of elections and referenda and shall fulfill these duties with all due diligence and impartiality, and under the direction of the CEO.

3)The DEO shall act impartially for the agency. Failure to act impartially and with disinterest by Elections McGill employees may result in forfeiture of pay.

4)In the event of an extended absence of the CEO, the DEO shall assume all duties of the CEO.

5)No officer of Elections McGill may be on the editorial staff of any campus publications that are published more than six (6) times per year.

6)No officer of Elections McGill may be a member of:

•SSMU Council including Speakers, the Executive, or of any Committee of Council or working group;

•The previous years’ SSMU Council or Executive;

•A faculty association council or executive; or

•An executive of any group that selects a slate or holds a public position on referenda.

•The SSMU general staff.

7)To undertake other duties and responsibilities as also may be assigned by the General Manager from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Diligence and impartiality in execution of duties.
  • Ability to work diligently under pressure.
  • Good planning, organization and communications skills.
  • Good communication skills both in English and French desirable.

  • Paid position: $14.75 per hour;
  • Hours: on average 3 hours per week;
  • Contract: From September 1st, 2019 to April 30th, 2020;
