Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Sustainable Building Coordinator will be to work with relevant stakeholders to minimize the environmental and social impact of the University Centre through the assessment of its infrastructure and operations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Facilitate regular audits of the sustainability of the University Centre, including assessments of consumption, energy output, waste production, and accessibility;

2) Identify opportunities and develop recommendations and targets for improving the sustainability of the University Centre;

3) Participate meetings regarding building planning and renovations, and ensure that any renovations completed are environmentally sound, meet barrier-free design standards, and follow SSMU’s standards and internal regulations on this topic;

4) Collaborate with relevant SSMU staff in the production of the annual SSMU Sustainability Assessment;

5) Assist student groups and vendors in making their use of the building space more environmentally sustainable and maximizing the accessibility of their space;

6) Sit as a member of the Environment Committee and report their work related to sustainability of the University Centre to that body;

7) Sit as a member of the Building Committee and report their work related to sustainability of the University Centre to that body;

8) Liaise with the Equity Commissioners on matters relating to accessibility and universal design within the University Centre; and

9) Coordinate the implementation of projects related to sustainability in the University Center in collaboration with SSMU staff.

Qualifications

1) Strong knowledge of environmental issues and accessibility issues; knowledge of SSMU an asset;

2) Research, assessment, and analytical skills required;

3) Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organization skills.

4) Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);

5) Good communication skills in English required, French an asset.

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $13.48 per hour;
  • Hours: on average 3-6 hours per week;
  • Contract: From September 1st, 2016 to April 30th, 2017;
