Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Club Commissioner is to assist the Vice-President (Student Life) with the management of the Club Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To administer, in conjunction with the Vice-President (Student Life), the application process for Club Status.

2) To assist and advise SSMU members on the process of applying for Interim Club Status and Full Club Status.

3) To review all submitted application for Interim Status and Full Status, and make recommendations for revisions where applicable to prepare applications for review by the Club Committee.

4) To prepare agendas in advance of and chair the SSMU Club Committee meetings.

5) To report to bi-weekly to SSMU’s Legislative Council on the decisions made by the Club Committee and to present those decisions for ratification.

6) To assist and advise representatives of student clubs on amendments to their constitutions.

7) To monitor compliance with club constitutions and with appendix G of the Memorandum of Agreement with McGill;

8) To collaborate with staff in the Student Life portfolio on the maintenance of club records and the upkeep of a master list of all SSMU Clubs.

9) To make recommendations on policies for the approval and maintenance of club status, as requested by the Vice-President (Student Life).

Qualifications

  • The Club Commissioner must have knowledge of the functioning of SSMU clubs. Experience serving as an executive of a SSMU club is desirable.
  • Experience with governance document revision as asset.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Reliability, integrity, strong planning skills, high degree of organization skills, strong analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills both in English and French desirable.
  • Strong customer service skills required to respond to complaints and high pressure work environment.

  • Paid position: $14.24 per hour
  • Hours: On average 5-10 hours per week
  • Contract: September 1st, 2017 – April 30th, 2018
