Job Description

Taylor University is seeking applications of candidates for an Press/Bindery Operator. This is a full-time, 12 month, non-exempt position located in Upland, Indiana.  Resumes will be accepted until position is filled.

To assist in the preparation and production of print jobs for the campus community.   Operates the digital presses and bindery equipment as they relate to the daily job schedule sheet.  Assures the quality of the finished print jobs by making proper checks and adjustments throughout the press run.  Cuts paper for the press jobs as needed.  Assists lead press operator in running and maintaining offset presses.  Backs up the high-speed copier operator and pre-press technician.  Assists in tracking and ordering inventory and supplies that relate to press operations and maintenance. Works with office assistant in placing orders for supplies as they become depleted.  Assists lead press operator in performing preventative maintenance on the press and bindery equipment as prescribed in the operator’s manuals.  Works closely with the rest of the production team to coordinate smooth workflow operations in accord with the daily job schedule.  Prepares completed print jobs ready for delivery to university departments.  Performs other duties as assigned by the University Press Director. 

Qualifications

Strong background in printing and bindery operations.  Familiarity with Microsoft programs, Photoshop and InDesign, preferred.  Specific abilities include selecting correct paper, preparing files for printing, operating digital printing equipment and bindery equipment, adjusting color to meet required standards, performing general maintenance on equipment, setting up bindery equipment for each run, maintaining accurate inventory records.   Must be able to respond to customer requests in a professional manner.
