Job Description

The Physician Assistant will primarily provide health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a physician. This includes, patient examination, comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.

• Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
• Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition.
• Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.
• Performs selected procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
• Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
• Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
• Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
• May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
• Carries out other duties as assigned.
• Thorough understanding of the principles and practices of public health medicine including knowledge of related cultures, social and economic forces in family practices.
• Knowledge of goals and general methods of practices used by other professionals participating in public health programs.
• Ability to practice public health medicine.
• To work productively with individuals and with professional and other groups within the community.
• To plan and execute work, seek and use supervision and consultation, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively both written and oral.
• Must be able to maintain a pleasant and professional attitude toward patients and personnel.
• Must be able to adhere to ALL client related policies and procedures including confidentiality.
• The ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
• Superior organizational and problem solving skills

Qualifications

• State of Texas License as a Physician's Assistant and eligible for certification
through the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
• 3 years preferred general or community health medical experience.
• Licensed to practice in jurisdiction as required by the State.
• 3 years preferred general or community health nursing experience.
• Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
• Must be able to adhere to all client related policies and procedures
including confidentiality.
• Requires a valid Texas Driver's License, appropriate driving record and auto liability insurance that meets the minimum required by State of Texas statute.
