What was your first job?

Recruiter. I’ve always been a recruiter.

The right fit. A top performer is human being who has found the right job.

About Brett:

Brett is responsible for all customer-facing functions at SmartRecruiters. Prior to SmartRecruiters, Brett was an executive at two of the fastest growing software companies in history. He spent a decade at salesforce.com where he served in a variety of senior leadership roles in Sales, R&D, and Operations focused on driving the company’s meteoric growth. Prior to salesforce.com, Brett held senior marketing and business development positions at Siebel Systems, which was eventually acquired by Oracle Corporation. Brett also serves as a board member at Invoca and Lytics. Brett has a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard University.

What was your first job?

I made the best 1/2 pound burgers at an A&W restaurant - complete with a hairnet and brown polyester uniform!

What makes a great hire?

A great EQ / IQ balance and an insatiable drive to win as a team.

Rajeev Batra Board Member

About Rajeev:

Rajeev Batra is a Partner at Mayfield and invests in Cloud/SaaS, Big Data and Mobile themes. He is an experienced investor and a former software entrepreneur and executive. His current investments include, AgilOne, C9, Marketo (NASDAQ: MKTO), NewsCred, ServiceMax, SmartRecruiters, Viralheat, TrustRadius and WideOrbit. His prior investments include: RedBeacon (acquired by The Home Depot - NYSE: HD in Jan 2012) and Vovici (acquired by Verint - NASDAQ: VRNT in Aug 2011).

Rajeev has held sales, marketing, product and technical roles at Siebel Systems, Scopus Technology and Open Environment Corporation (OEC), which pioneered three-tier computing and service oriented architecture. He was also on the founding team of NetNumina Solutions, an IT consulting firm, which was acquired by Keane.

Prior to joining Mayfield, Rajeev was at Mobius/Softbank Venture Capital, Austin Ventures and American Capital Strategies.

Rajeev received an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a BSEE Honors from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he serves on the Board of Visitors of the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

Doug Schrier Board Member

About Doug:

Doug joined Rembrandt Venture Partners in 2001 as a General Partner. Prior to that, Doug was a Senior Partner at Argo Global Capital in Boston from 2001 to late 2006. Doug has been involved in funding, managing, and developing over 25 technology companies for over the last 20 years. His prior experience includes being SVP for Acquisitions and Strategic Ventures at SAIC, a Fortune 250 company in La Jolla, CA.

Doug currently sits on the boards of Allegiance, Electric Cloud, Proximetry, Coveroo, SmartRecruiters, LiveRamp and Needle. Also, Doug currently mentors through Columbia's Private Equity Mentorship Program.

Doug received his MBA from Columbia Business School in 1990 and his undergraduate degree in Economics/Pre-Med from DePauw University in 1987.

About Jim:

Jim Milton leads customer development, product and sales strategy for SmartRecruiters' mid-market and enterprise business. Prior, Jim led product strategy at Oracle/Taleo where he focused on next-generation sourcing solutions for large enterprise organizations. Throughout his career in the recruiting technology space, Jim has consistently delivered results across functions, beginning at TheLadders.com and at LinkedIn. An innovator in social recruiting at SelectMinds, Jim and his team launched one of the industry's first successful social referral products. Jim also serves as an advisory board member to Portfolium. Jim has a BS in Marketing from Syracuse University.

What was your first job?

Self-employed: I rented out VFW halls and promoted punk rock shows in high school.

What makes a great hire?

High-energy people who are MacGyver-creative in solving tough problems with limited resources.

About Lena:

Lena leads all marketing, communications, branding and demand generation at SmartRecruiters. She spent the last decade building cross-functional teams for fast-growing SaaS companies disrupting the digital marketing space, most recently as VP Demand and Customer Marketing at Responsys, which was acquired by Oracle in 2014. Prior to Responsys, she spent three years as Director of Marketing at EmailLabs. Lena earned a BCom in Marketing from UNBC in Canada.

What was your first job?

Serving in the bar + restaurant of the neighborhood ski hill. It’s questionable if more time was spent skiing or working.

What makes a great hire?

Someone who is so motivated and invested that their job doesn’t feel like work.

Why SmartRecruiters?

To bring the same disruptive technology to recruiting that already enables other industries and change the model how we all find and hire great people.

What’s your favorite feature?

About Mike:

Mike is responsible for global sales at SmartRecruiters. Prior to SmartRecruiters, Mike ran US sales and operations at Avature where he was instrumental to the company’s rapid growth from 2008-2014. Prior to Avature, Mike held multiple senior sales management positions at HotJobs.com, which had a successful IPO in 1999 and was eventually acquired by Yahoo! in 2002 for $440M. Mike has a BA from Syracuse University.

What was your first job?

I ran field marketing promotion programs for CPG companies in Chicago.

What makes a great hire?

Someone who can take a position and convincingly and relentlessly defend it. They’ll be an unstoppable force when you give them a great product to sell.

As a veteran recruiter and HR product leader, Rebecca leads the Pro Services organization responsible for account management and renewals, implementation services, pre-sales support, and help and education. Prior to joining, she spent two years at Jobvite as the Director of Strategic Accounts, where her responsibilities included managing domestic and international customers, leading enterprise renewals and driving user engagement. Prior to Jobvite, Meissner held both product and operational positions BranchOut, one of the world’s largest professional networks on Facebook, and at Playdom, which was acquired by Disney Interactive Media Group in 2010. Rebecca holds her degree from the University of California – Berkeley.

What was your first job?

I was a lifeguard. Nothing beats hanging out by the pool on a hot New England day!

What makes a great hire?

The best hires aren’t necessarily the ones with the perfect resume. The best hires are the ones who bring confidence and competition to the table every day. If you’re motivated to learn, and you know how to push yourself, you’re more valuable than the guy who’s done the job longer but has lost all passion for what he does.

He is part of the founding team at SmartRecruiters, having previously worked at MrTed, acquired in 2010 by Stepstone Solutions (currently Lumesse). Nik brings over 5 years of experience in customer success, account management, and marketing experience in the recruiting technology industry. He earned his B.S. from Drexel University.

What was your first job?

Helping out at a law firm. Learned a ton about attention to detail, communication, and what working and contributing in a real business means.

What makes a great hire?

Attitude, enthusiasm, competence, and drive.

About Rafal:

Rafal has led the Engineering team from the first days of SmartRecruiters and was part of the founding team. He is a veteran software developer who has been building recruiting solutions for nearly a decade, transitioning from corporate to consumer SaaS software. Prior to SmartRecruiters he worked at MrTed (currently Lumesse). Rafal has a MSc in Computer Science from Technical University of Lodz.

What was your first job?

I was a salesman during the summers and learned to find the best match for customers’ needs.

What makes a great hire?

The right mixture of competence and interpersonal qualities. The SmartRecruiters’ Engineering team looks for 4 things: knowledge, smarts, friendliness and honesty.

About Robert:

Robert has designed and led development of substantial customer facing systems for twenty years, including an operational support system which currently powers well known telco operators like Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica and others. He planned and executed a significant technological change of MrTed TalentLink - an Applicant Tracking System currently owned by Lumesse. Robert is fan of modern IT and focuses on optimizing the software development process. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from AGH University of Science and Technology.

What was your first job?

IT research and teaching students at a university.

Rafal has worked for several international scientific institutions, startups, and and large companies, including building and managing performance and engineering teams at Sabre Poland. At SmartRecruiters, Rafal is responsible for DevOps, QA teams, hosting infrastructure and security. Rafal has a MSc in Physics from AGH University of Science and Technology.

What was your first job?

Unix Systems admin at DESY - one of the world’s leading high energy particle accelerator centers.

Ania Ziebicka Finance

About Ania:

Anna is responsible for all aspects of finance, admin, HR and facilities across the company. She started her professional career with nine years as a financial auditor at KPMG followed by Finance Manager and Controller for different industries. She gained five years SaaS experience at MrTed, acquired in 2010 by Stepstone Solutions (currently Lumesse). Prior joining SmartRecruiters Anna was leading the Finance Department of PerkinElmer SSC in Krakow, responsible for full statutory and US GAAP financial reporting for over 30 European entities. Anna earned her MA in Economics from the University of Economics in Krakow (Poland) and holds a Fellow of ACCA title (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

What was your first job?

Taking care of kids at a summer camp. Ten ten-year-old boys. That was a real challenge. All survived.

What makes a great hire?

The combination of competency and energy. Both the employer and employee have to feel that real value comes from their cooperation.
